Exfoliation is the key to younger-looking, refreshed skin. Whether it’s a chemical peel, dermabrasion, or laser resurfacing, the goal is to exfoliate the skin, revealing new skin beneath. At Spa Vitoria, we also use dermaplaning to keep our patients’ skin looking vibrant. Dermaplaning is a combination of a manual exfoliation procedure coupled with a light chemical peel to energize your skin.
What is dermaplaning?
Not to be confused with dermabrasion, an aggressive skin resurfacing procedure that we don’t perform at Spa Vitoria, dermaplaning is an easy procedure that has no downtime. Although it doesn’t have to, we usually make dermaplaning at Spa Vitoria a two-step exfoliation treatment. In the first step a sterile surgical blade is gently passed over the top layer of the skin at a 45% angle, removing dead skin cells and the “peach fuzz” hair that all women hate. The second step is to apply a light chemical peel to the skin. By combining the manual exfoliation with the peel, our dermaplaning allows deeper penetration that softens fine lines and uneven pigment, and encourages the body with the cell turnover that is key to refreshed-looking skin. The entire procedure takes only 45 minutes.
A blade on my face? That must hurt!
Actually, by running the blade lightly over the skin at a 45% angle, there is no pain whatsoever in our dermaplaning procedure. You won’t need any topical numbing cream or anything. You may notice a slight tingling when we apply the chemical peel, but that’s normal.
Downtime?
Unlike many resurfacing procedures, there isn’t any downtime with dermaplaning. When you leave our offices your skin will likely have a pink appearance, but that passes within a few hours. There may be some light tightening and flaking of your skin, but that is gone within two days.
Dermaplaning is great before a big event to give your skin a radiant glow. You can repeat the procedure monthly to keep your skin cells turning over and to remove any new hair growth.
