Radiofrequency energy was valuable when you were in high school jamming to the latest tunes. Today it’s more valuable for tightening the ever-loosening skin on your face with Thermage. Thermage sometimes referred to as a “facelift without surgery,” delivers radiofrequency energy beneath the surface of the skin to immediately tighten and contour your skin.
How does Thermage work?
First, an anatomy lesson on your skin. The skin is made up of three layers: the visible surface layer, the epidermis; the collagen-rich underlayer, the dermis; and the inner layer beneath the dermis, also known as the fat layer. Collagen fibers run throughout these layers providing structural support.
As we age, our collagen production declines more and more every year after we turn 20. This decrease causes the collagen in the skin layers to break down, allowing the skin to sag and develop wrinkles.
Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin back up. The handpiece delivers the energy beneath epidermis into the under layers and the web of collagen. This causes an immediate tightening response in the body, as it perceives the heating as a wound. It also causes the body to produce new collagen as a response. This continues to add support to the skin for four to six months after your Thermage treatment.
The treatment procedure
A Thermage session at Saltz Spa Vitoria is painless and has no side effects. You’ll feel a brief heat sensation each time the Thermage handpiece delivers the radiofrequency energy. This heat is the activating factor triggering collage remodeling and skin tightening. You may have some redness at the treatment areas for a couple hours after treatment, but that’s it.
How many Thermage treatments are necessary?
Unlike many skin-tightening procedures that require four or more sessions, most of our Thermage patients need only a single treatment. Your results continue to improve over the first six months and will continue to endure depending on your skin condition and the aging process.
